    Sovereign Estate Winery is located in Waconia, Minnesota, overlooking Lake Waconia. We are approximately 35 minutes west of Minneapolis, making us one of the most scenic winery destinations near the Twin Cities.

    How far is Sovereign Estate Winery from Minneapolis?

    Sovereign Estate Winery is about 30–40 minutes from downtown Minneapolis, depending on traffic. We are one of the closest vineyard and lake-view wineries near Minneapolis.

    Are there wineries in Waconia, Minnesota?

    Yes, Waconia is home to multiple wineries. Waconia is one of Minnesota’s premier wine destinations and tourist destinations due to the lake, local businesses and proximity to the Twin Cities. So grab your friends and make a day of it!

    What makes Sovereign Estate Winery different from other Waconia wineries?

    The proximity to the lake really sets our vineyard apart which one can see, and taste in our wines. Sovereign Estate Winery offers some of the best wines in the state as well as a calendar full of events. We host numerous festivals, concerts and have the capability to host large private and cooperate events. Couple that with the best views, it is truly an unforgettable experience.

  • Do I need a reservation for wine tasting?

    Reservations are recommended for our guided wine tasting experiences or tours. We do offer walk-in tastings as an option when space and timing allows.

    How much does a wine tasting cost?

    Usually $15-$35 depending on the experience selected. Tastings typically include multiple curated samples of our estate-grown Minnesota wines.

    What is included in a wine tasting?

    A wine tasting includes a selection of our wines, ranging from estate grown options to Washington state reds. A member of our team will provide tasting notes and background on our wines.

    How long does a wine tasting last?

    Depending on the experience you choose as well as you group size. Walk in tastings can be between 20-30 minutes while tours and guided tastings can be anywhere from 45-75 minutes.

  • What makes Minnesota wine unique?

    Minnesota wines are developed by the University of Minnesota made specifically to thrive in our harsh winters. These grapes produce aromatic and bright whites and bold reds.

    What are cold-climate wines?

    Cold-climate wines are made from grape varieties specifically bred to survive freezing temperatures. These grapes are grown in northern regions like Minnesota and produce structured, aromatic wines.

    What grapes grow in Minnesota?

    We grow six different varieties including Marquette, La Crescent, Itasca, Frontenac, Frontenac Gris and Frontenac Blanc.

    What is Marquette wine?

    Marquette is our most popular red at Sovereign Estate. It is a a cold-hardy red grape developed for our specific Minnesota climate. A hybrid of Pinot Noir, it most notably produces medium-bodied red wines with notes of cherry, black pepper, and spice. We also utilize our Marquette to do blends, roses, and unique styles like Nouveau and Bourbon Barrel Aged.

    Are Minnesota wines sweet or dry?

    Minnesota wineries produce both dry and sweet wines. At Sovereign Estate Winery, we focus on mostly dry wines, especially for our reds. We do offer a couple of sweet and desert wines so if that is your preference we have a wine for you!

  • How many guests can you accommodate for events?

    We can host small gatherings of 10 people to larger events for 500 people. It depends on the season and the venue you choose.

    Can we host corporate events at the winery?

    Yes, Sovereign Estate Winery hosts numerous corporate events, private parties, and various celebrations.

  • Can I buy Minnesota wine online?

    Yes, you can purchase Sovereign Estate wines online for pickup or eligible shipping, depending on state regulations.

    Do you ship wine outside Minnesota?

    Yes, we can ship to a number of states. Buy Wine

    What are the benefits of joining the wine club?

    Wine club members receive exclusive releases, free tastings, discounts on bottles purchases (15% on bottles, 25% on cases) and events, and invites and member only events. We have three releases of 4 bottles on wine per year.

  • Is Sovereign Estate Winery family friendly?

    Absolutely! We are a family-friendly establishment. We kindly ask that all children are closely supervised and not left unattended at any time on our property. All guests under 21 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 21.

    Are dogs allowed at the winery?

    Yes! well behaved dogs are welcomed during normal operations for the patio season as long as they are in the grass area. They are not allowed during some events like concerts or some festivals.

    Do you serve food?

    Yes, We have a a great selections of pizzas, cheeseboards and seasonal fare from our on site restaurant “The Osprey” as well as a more casual patio dining experience during the warmer months.

    Is there outdoor seating?

    Yes, Sovereign Estate Winery has over 50 acres with plenty of outdoor seating. Guests are encouraged to walk around, relax and enjoy some of the best views in Minnesota.

    Can I Bring food/beverages on property?

    We DO NOT allow any outside food (including desserts/cakes), beverages, or coolers on our property. If you are looking for food options while visiting us, please visit our Patio Bistro Page for menu options and more information.

    OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    Narcotic, other illicit drugs, and Cannabis use in all forms (smoking, pills, gummies vaping, etc.) is strictly PROHIBITED for all guests on property. Tobacco use is restricted to outside near the firepit area and/or 50 feet from the building.

    BAD BEHAVIOR: Please drink responsibly. We are a family-friendly establishment that follows all the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Rules and Regulations regarding alcohol service. Inebriated patrons will be asked to leave the property immediately.
